Boston – Experts are saying that cancer patients are in need of more painkillers and affordable medications. As reported by Reuters, the World Health Organization has estimated that approximately five billion people live in nations where access to controlled pain relievers is limited.

John Seffrin, chief executive officer of the American Cancer Society, is quoted by Reuters as stating at the World Cancer Congress in Shenzhen, “It's shocking and shameful the number of people who suffer needlessly because of the lack of access to analgesics.”

Doug Ulman, president of Livestrong, is further noted to state that experts in the field are working on efforts to obtain cancer drugs at discounted rates for patients in developing countries. Ulman is quoted as saying, “It's all about proving that you can deliver that great care at a lower cost in a developing country ... for a lot of these [pharmaceutical] companies, it's a new market.”
